Then it suddenly stopped working completely (something another reviewer reported also); I assumed it was defective, and I put it to one side with the intention of returning it. About a week later I was going to pack it up for return; I pushed the "on" switch assuming it would still be dead, and it was working again! I've used it sparingly since then, and it seems to be okay (although I'm not pushing my luck!). I must admit it does a GREAT job when it's working. When I got this thing, I tried it on a high-quality wool sweater that was showing its age. After a 2-minute de-fuzzing, it looked brand spanking new. I was so delighted that I went on a little fabric-shaving spree (nothing like a new gadget to get me going)! I revitalized so many jackets, pants, and other items that I probably doubled my work wardrobe in an hour.The most satisfying use I found for the Fuzz-Away was removing the pills from my 2-year-old's beloved satin blanket. He watched me, fascinated, then felt the blanket, then announced: "Mommy cleaned dat!"
